8:30PM Saturday 27 March 2010: Don’t forget to turn your lights off!

Posted by Flipper Museum On March - 25 - 2010Comments Off

On March 27, people and businesses around the world will turn off their lights for one hour starting at 8:30 p.m. local time for Earth Hour, which was created to encourage people to become more aware of what they can do to help the environment.

“We would like Earth Hour to be a global pause — encouraging people to think about their impact and, more important, actually do something to help. Switching off the lights symbolizes that action that we allcould take in doing our part for the planet. Research locally has shown that this pause has resulted in further action to help make a difference. The idea of Earth Hour also doesn’t need to always be linked to lights (that’s why we didn’t call it “the big flick”) — it could also be about other aspects of the environment.”

- Todd Sampson, one of the creators of Earth Hour, CEO of Leo Burnett Australia

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, is organized by World Wildlife Fund, WWF. By March 2009, Earth Hour has grown to involve hundreds of millions of people in 4,159 cities, towns and municipalities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet. Below is the posters created by Shepard Fairey for 2009 Earth Hour and World Wildlife Fund.

Check out their official website to learn more about Earth Hour. Let’s join forces now and show your support by making a Virtual Lantern. Don’t forget to turn you lights off!
